I dabble in cooking, yet I am just as likely to set the stove aflame as I am to whip up a gourmet meal. Roll the dice (with a few safety precautions in place, of course) and take a chance with me. The mistakes are almost as fun as a delicious surprise!
While browsing Reddit, I stumbled upon an amazing subreddit called r/GifRecipes. The General Tso’s Chicken Recipe caught my eye, and I gave it a try. I modified a few things, but the result was tasty!
Time Required: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
- 1lb Chicken Breast (or) Thighs
- Soy Sauce
- Rice Vinegar
- Corn Starch
- Dried Chilis
- Fresh Garlic (or) Garlic Granules
- Vegetable Oil
- Fresh Ginger
Prepare Marinade in medium mixing bowl: 1 cup Soy Sauce, 1/4 cup Rice Vinegar, and 1/4 cup water. Cut chicken into 1-2in squares and place in marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 30 mins.
Warm oil on stovetop. (CAUTION! Use discretion when frying. It’s best to keep oil on medium to prevent overheating and do not fill oil above half of pan capacity. Oil will foam and rise once chicken is added.)
Mix 1 cup flour and 1 tbsp salt in new mixing bowl. Add marinated chicken to flour mixture – mix until chicken is thoroughly covered. Fry chicken.
Once cooked, remove chicken from the oil. Line a bowl with a towel to sop up excess oil from the cooked chicken.
Prepare General Tso’s sauce in skillet: 2 tbsp vegetable oil, 1 Tsp Fresh grated ginger, 1 tsp garlic, 1/2 cup dried chilis, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 tbsp cornstarch slurry. Mix on medium until thickened and bubbling. Add chicken.
Toss. Serve. Eat. Enjoy. Be happy.
